Fayetteville (NC) Area Convention & Visitors Bureau Highlights 2013 Additions to County's Tourism Amenities

By the close of 2013, visitors to Cumberland County will have the pleasure of experiencing updates at key hotels, attractions and other amenities.

Hotel News:
The Doubletree by Hilton recently added a new function room, the Garden Room. This room is 2200 square feet, features high ceilings with beautiful chandeliers and exits into the property's courtyard. Renovations continue in 2013 with the addition of an outdoor pool. The Doubletree by Hilton is located at 1965 Cedar Creek Road in Fayetteville.

Both the Hampton Inn Spring Lake and Holiday Inn Express & Suites in Spring Lake will undergo major renovations in 2013, highlighted by new paint carpet and furniture throughout, and new bathroom designs. The Hampton Inn is located at 1050 North Bragg Boulevard in Spring Lake, its sister property Holiday Inn Express & Suites is located at 103 Brook Lane in Spring Lake.

In January 2013 the Comfort Inn near I-95 will unveil its property overhaul. Renovations included new carpet and furniture throughout the property, plus the addition of a hot breakfast and a refurbished lobby area. The Comfort Inn is located at 1569 Jim Johnson Road in Fayetteville.

Attraction News

Cross Creek Mall
In late 2012, the 1 million sq. ft. Cross Creek Mall completed renovations that including adding a children's play area for young children. This one-of-a kind partnership resulted in a play area that is a visual representation of the community's tourism product. The area features play pieces such as a mini Market House slide, a military plane, golf ball, and a canoe on the Cape Fear River.

In 2013, the mall will undergo a 46,000-sq. ft. expansion that will add a number of large retail stores and restaurants new to the area. Construction begins early 2013, and will be completed in late fall.

Anne Frank Exhibit Series
From March 18 through April 21, 2013, Fayetteville will host three national exhibits - two from the Anne Frank Center USA and another from the National Holocaust Museum. Eight other community events and exhibits support the presentation of the national exhibits. Together they form a series that discusses and educates about the evils of intolerance; while honoring those that died in the Holocaust and those that fought in World War II. 12th Annual Sandhills Sankofa Festival
On May 18, 2013, the Sandhills Family Heritage Association will once again celebrate the region's rich cultural heritage of rural African-Americans with the Sandhills Sankofa Festival. Held at the Spring Lake Recreation Center, the Sankofa Festival features home-grown foods, crafts, music, ministries, dance performances, story telling and herbal remedy demonstrations.

Airline News
Starting February 14, 2013, United Airlines will begin providing Fayetteville Regional Airport with three round-trip daily direct flights to Dulles Airport outside Washington, DC. Flight time is expected to be one hour and 20 minutes.

United’s service will provide Fayetteville Regional Airport with its third connection to a major hub, and fourth destination, featuring Charlotte, Atlanta and Reagan National in Washington, DC.

“We are thrilled be adding more service to Washington, D.C.,” Airport Director Bradley Whited said. “Flights to Washington are valuable to our military based at Fort Bragg, our veterans and also our business community"
