Greenberg Traurig’s Global Labor and Employment Practice Continues to Gain Momentum

Greenberg Traurig’s Global Labor & Employment practice made major strides in the past several months, receiving recognition from several industry publications.

James N. Boudreau, a shareholder in Philadelphia who leads the firm’s Labor and Employment Section’s Class and Collective Action Practice, was among three Greenberg Traurig 2012 Law360 MVP Awards winners. The awards honor attorneys whose achievements in major litigation or transactions have set a new standard for accomplishment in corporate law. He represents management in class action and complex employment litigation, devoting the majority of his practice to managing teams of attorneys and paralegals in nationwide class and collective actions from receipt of the complaint through discovery, class certification and trial. Boudreau was selected due to his representation of employers in several putative class and collective actions which addressed and resolved many cutting edge legal issues.

Richard C. McCrea, Jr. and Peter W. Zinober, shareholders in the Tampa office of Greenberg Traurig, were named 2013 “Lawyers of the Year” by Best Lawyers in America in Employment Law - Management and Litigation - Labor & Employment, respectively. Nationwide, 22 team members are listed.

According to the Best Lawyers website, only one lawyer in each practice area and designated metropolitan area is recognized as a “Lawyer of the Year.” The designations, first published by Best Lawyers in 2009, are based entirely on particularly high voting averages during the peer-review assessment conducted with thousands of lawyers every year.

McCrea, a shareholder in the firm’s Labor & Employment and Government Litigation practice groups, is a jury trial lawyer specializing in employment, civil rights and restrictive covenant litigation. He is past chair of the Labor & Employment Section, Labor & Employment Law Certification Committee and Board of Legal Specialization and Education of The Florida Bar.

Zinober, who is co-chair of the firm’s Global Labor & Employment practice and co-chair of the firm’s Global Human Capital Solutions practice, specializes in “traditional” labor management relations laws and representation of employers in connection with unfair labor practice and representation case proceedings before the National Labor Relations Board. In addition, he focuses on the defense of employment discrimination cases in state and federal court, both jury and non-jury, as well as wage and hour, disability and age discrimination. Zinober is the founding president of the Academy of Florida Management Attorneys and served as past chairman of the Labor Law Advisory Committee, the Designation Coordinating Committee and the Labor Law Section of The Florida Bar.

Attorneys designated as “Lawyers of the Year” are part of the larger 2013 Best Lawyers in America edition. Inclusion in the 2013 edition is based on more than 4.3 million detailed and confidential evaluations of the legal abilities of lawyers by their peers, according the publisher.

In 2012 and 2011, the group celebrated the addition of new shareholders and of counsel who joined the firm, the launch of three active blogs and several significant recognitions.

In 2012, Jordan Cowman joined as a shareholder and Dianne Carlson joined as of counsel in Dallas, and Robert H. Bernstein joined in New Jersey as a shareholder.

In 2011, shareholders joined the firm in several U.S. locations as well as in Europe, including:
Mark D. Kemple in Los Angeles, CA, Johnine P. Barnes in Washington, D.C., Erik Rodriguez in Atlanta, GA and Dorothé Smits in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Also in 2011, the firm’s New Jersey Labor & Employment Practice was formed with the addition of shareholders Wendy Johnson Lario and Kristine J. Feher, as well as Micala Campbell Robinson and Kristy Grazioso who are of counsel.

Jonathan Sulds, co-chair of Greenberg Traurig's Global Labor & Employment Group, said, “All of our additions bring sophistication and a wealth of knowledge to the practice and we are proud that they decided to join our team. The services we provide to clients, litigation and counseling, are greatly enhanced by the capabilities our new team members bring to the firm.”

The firm’s Labor & Employment team includes over 100 practitioners including litigators who try cases from beginning to end. Nearly twenty shareholders are ranked in Chambers and Partners USA and UK editions. The practice also includes current and former chairs in ABA sections, committees and subcommittees: a Member of the Council, ABA Labor and Employment Law Section; one of the Chairs of the ABA International Labor and Employment Law Committee; one of the Chairs of the Employee Benefits: Welfare Plans – Benefits Claims Subcommittee; and, Administrative Chair of the ABA Employment Rights and Responsibilities Committee.

The team maintains an active and highly informative blog called LE Blog (http://www.gtleblog.com/), which launched in April of 2010 and features insights and analysis of key national labor and employment developments, including legislation, regulations, cases, policies and trends. LE Blog is read by in-house counsel and chief compliance officers from around the globe. In addition, GT also has two immigration blogs.
