United Theological Seminary, of Dayton, OH, is pleased to announce its second annual song and hymn-writing competition, “New Songs and Hymns for Renewal.”
Writers and composers are invited to submit songs or hymns with themes of church renewal or personal spiritual renewal. Submissions are due by April 22, 2013.
“Several years ago,” said United’s President Dr. Wendy Deichmann, “United adopted as a prayer, a program and its tagline: Spirit Led, Renewing the Church! We hope that the new hymns and songs from this competition will help us celebrate the renewal that only God can give!”
Cash prizes will be awarded and the winning compositions will be performed at the opening Convocation celebration on Friday, August 9, 2013. For complete details, including submission guidelines, prizes and application information, please click here.
“I am eagerly looking forward to another year of this competition,” said Jeremy Winston, United’s music director. “Creating new songs and hymns for the church is one of the essential responsibilities in church renewal. After receiving over 70 submissions last year, we realize that there is a great body of music and musicians and are eager to pitch in in the renewal of the church. I am glad United is committed to this necessary work.”
