There is always something waiting to be discovered in life—be it a story, a valuable lesson, a dream— yet only a few people can pick out the remarkable from what seems to be common, everyday things. The poems in the book “The Devious Route”, author Helen Kanevsky, make the voice of baby boomers’ generation more diverse and precise. The poems recollect the author’s family history and her turbulent inner life without skipping the intimate details or hiding her odd perception of the world ruling forces. The poems form a moving narrative that reads like a novel.
Kanevsky’s collection shows an original philosophical approach to the world’s most troubling problems, yet many readers might find themselves on the same page with Helen. The poems tell readers about life as it is: tough, cruel, joyful, blissful, full of adventures and missed opportunities. The author hopes that her poetry will instill upon readers the passion to embark on their own pursuit of happiness. Helen Kanevsky writes,

“It is America after all—nothing stood between me and my vision about the pursuit of happiness. I still didn’t make my first million or even a thousand dollars, but I have published my first book of poems.
I hope you will enjoy my narrative and start your own vision about the pursuit of happiness.”

Sometimes irreverent, sometimes poignant yet always unforgettable, “The Devious Route” is a poetic testament to the unwavering fire that burns inside each person—the same fire that lets one persist and grow in life’s different seasons.
