Eventually, he got promoted as a detective and also became a gang crime specialist in the Gang Unit.
Through the pages of the book, Zito recalled his unforgettable encounters during his time in the parole office. He narrated that he was involved in six shoot outs with criminals, mostly armed robberies. He was also engaged with three armed robbers, which he fatally wounded one, injured the second and arrested the third criminal. As the years passed, he gave up his detective rating and went back to work in a tactical unit in the 019th District. After approximately four years, he was permanently injured and placed on duty disability for 17 years. One day, Zito had answered a call of two police officers in need of assistance and at this time, he realized that his career as a street cop had already ended.
