Orlando University Gives Special Recognition to Alumni Contributing to Society

The University honored the social achievement of three of its alumni in 2012

Orlando University presented a special award to three of its alumni to recognize their positive efforts towards society. Mohammad Junaid based in Abu Dhabi, UAE, Jamie Stevens based in London, Britain and Alicia Browns based in New York, USA were given a silver plaque and a donation of $25,000 each for their respective charities.

In Abu Dhabi, Mohammad Junaid helps widowed women learn new skills so that they can earn for their households. These skills include making traditional Arab handicrafts, household linens and embroidered clothes. Jamie Stevens has established a charitable school in Dhaka, Bangladesh where children between the ages of 6 to 16 are provided free education. Alicia Browns helps the elderly who are homeless by providing food and shelter in Mumbai and New Delhi, India.

Orlando University is proud to have such socially-sensitive people as part of its alumni. It is very important to spread the power of knowledge and help build the lives of the less privileged in our society. This recognition is to acknowledge the positive impact that these people have made in people’s lives and the world we live in”, said Mary Jacobs, Head of Student Affairs at the University.

All of the three alumni have completed their Master’s Degree from the University and remain committed to fulfilling their social obligations. Because their degree program was affordable and self paced, they were able to take time out and contribute towards society.
