ShapeMed – -- Atlanta’s premier medical aesthetics and wellness clinic, is now offering no cost low testosterone screening for any man above the age of 30 who is a GA resident. Dr. S. Mark McKenna, MD, CEO and Medical Director of ShapeMed, is offering the screenings to bring awareness to a problem that is affecting millions of men nationwide.

According to American Endocrine Society men, like women, undergo a normal and natural decline in their hormones beginning at age 30. Research suggests the decline can be as much as 1 – 4% per year and can be affecting by a number of conditions including diet, drug usage, stress, exercise, and heredity.

Dr. S. Mark McKenna is one of a growing number of physicians who believes the increased prevalence of low testosterone in American males is at least somewhat due to the increased level of hormones found in the American food stock.

“I am relatively certain that increasing levels of hormones found in our nations beef, bovine, and poultry supply is at least on some level affecting the endocrine systems of men and women in this country,” says Dr. McKenna. “We are offering the screening to bring awareness to a problem that can affect millions of men and go undetected. Let’s face it: men are not exactly racing to discuss their hormones with their friends, wives or doctors for that matter. We want to make it easy and convenient for them to get the information that they need.”

Dr. McKenna suggests that while testosterone replacement is not for everyone, interested men should consult with their physicians, weigh the risks versus benefits, and make an informed decision.

“Low testosterone will not kill you, so in my opinion it is a symptom based treatment. Meaning if a man is exhibiting fatigue, low sex drive, decreased muscle mass, and/or problems concentrating – i.e. symptoms of low testosterone. After beginning replacement his symptoms improve then we call that a success.”

Of course as with any medical procedure a skilled physician must be consulted and the appropriate data must be analyzed to guide therapy.
