Property Crime
Reported property crimes increased by 1.6% in 2011, when compared to 2010. The largest category increase occurred in the motor vehicle theft category with a 6.9% increase. Although San Francisco saw an increase in property crime, nationally crime has dropped in the overall category since 2003 based on the FBI’s Uniform Crime Report.

Thefts increase 1.6%
Auto Thefts increase 6.9%

Violent Crime
In San Francisco, violent crime fell slightly by .5%. Among the individually tracked categories homicides increased by 4.1% while aggravated assaults dropped by 11.7%.

Rape decrease 1.5%
Robberies decrease 2.9%
Aggravated Assaults decrease 11.7%

Looking at the numbers for San Francisco, the city has not experienced the overall decrease in crime that most of the country has seen in recent years. Property crime has significantly decreased from 2008 to 2010, but has started to increase in 2011. Violent crime has been steady dropping since 2008.
