The recently published report was launched by the London Fire Brigade (LFB), following a house fire in London in September 2011 which killed 41 year old Muna Elmufatish and five of her sons and daughters. It has been reported that the LFB described it as the worst house fire in the capital for more than ten years, it was established that the blaze was caused when a capacitor inside the freezer failed and caught fire. The fire then spread to an adjacent compressor housed in plastic causing the fire to spread throughout the house.
The team at plumbing agency, We Fix Now, also specialise in repairing kitchen appliances, including fridge freezers, ovens and washing machines and the story naturally provoked their interest. Dedicated to raising the awareness of the dangers of faulty appliances, a representative from the company shares their thoughts on the subject.
“Cases like this only highlight the importance of checking the safety of all household appliances. The report showed that modern fridges and freezers are particularly dangerous in the event of a fire, due to the increasing amount of plastic used now, a highly flammable substance that can cause fires to spread more quickly.
“Those with any concern at all over their fridge freezer should contact a reputable source such as We Fix Now who will be happy to attend the property and diagnose the problem.”
