Kettlebell Exercises Expert Lorna Kleidman Comments on New Fitness Technology Gadgets

Following an article published by The Wall Street Journal that introduces some of the new fitness gadgets on the market, kettlebell exercises expert Lorna Kleidman affirms the importance of monitoring personal fitness success with new technology.

On January 17, Lorna Kleidman, an expert on the use of kettlebells, reacts to an article posted on The Wall Street Journal outlining some of the newest fitness-monitoring gadgets on the market.

In the article, published by The Wall Street Journal, over 30 million wearable fitness-monitoring devices were sold in the U.S. last year. That’s a 37 percent rise from 2011 and sales are expected to rise even more.

Lorna Kleidman, a kettlebell sport world champion and expert of kettlebell exercises, said it’s no surprise why there was such an increase in fitness technology sales. “People are becoming way more conscious about being healthy,” Kleidman said. “The best way to keep yourself on track with exercising is to have a constant motivation or reminder of how productive you are.”

One of the gadgets described in the article is called the Core2. Designed by BodyMedia and Avery Dennison, this high-tech armband monitors calories burned, activity and sleep pattern. It also comes with customizable faceplates, straps and cuffs. It can even be turned into a heart rate monitor.

Another gadget by the same company is the Vue. According to the article, due out later this year, the Vue looks like a large Band-Aid and will also measure calories, activity and sleep patterns. However, the Vue is also waterproof and disposable. It will be sold at a lower price than the Core2.

“The disposable patch is a great idea for those people who don’t like wearing armbands when they work out,” Kleidman said. ”These gadgets monitor your calories, so you’re able to tell how many calories you’re burning. When you know that you’re burning calories, you can challenge yourself to burn more, instead of just working out for 15 minutes and thinking you worked off 500 calories. It’s better to visualize success and progress with these gadgets. Sometimes when I teach kettlebell exercises, I will use a monitor to keep track of my body’s progress.”

The article revealed many insurance companies are also encouraging the use of similar health or fitness monitors to keep rates down.
