PLS has made a 2012 contribution of more than $46,000 to the Avon Foundation for Women to fund the Foundation's fight against breast cancer. The amount was driven by the total number of transactions on the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade Visa® Prepaid Card, available at PLS Check Cashers locations.

Customers have told us they’re proud to carry the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade Card because this is a very important cause for them. They’re glad to have a way to support the fight against breast cancer with their purchases.

When the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade Visa® Prepaid Card was introduced at PLS Check Cashers stores in the spring of 2012, both PLS and the Avon Foundation for Women had high expectations. But the instant success of the card—and the steadily increasing customer demand for it—has far surpassed even the most optimistic of projections.

“Our commitment to the Avon Foundation for Women was a minimum annual contribution of $25,000, based on a projected number of transactions,” noted Barb Wolf, VP Marketing & Products, PLS. “We surpassed that number within six months of the card’s introduction.

“PLS is very pleased to make a 2012 donation of $46,144.95 to the Avon Foundation to support its fight against breast cancer,” said Wolf.

Rallying customers to the crusade

“Customers have told us they’re proud to carry the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade Card because this is a very important cause for them,” reported Wolfberg. “They’re glad to have a way to support the fight against breast cancer with their purchases.”

Cardholders are also attracted to the convenience and security of the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade Card, as well as such benefits as free direct deposit, free reloading of funds at PLS locations and an array of other features.

PLS team members raise funds

During October, PLS team members at the company’s Chicago headquarters and at two satellite offices celebrated Breast Cancer Awareness Month with an employee raffle that raised an additional $1,981 for the Avon Foundation for Women.

“Our entire company has warmly embraced this cause,” noted Wolfberg. “Many of our team members have been touched by this disease through family and friends, and are eager to support efforts to find a cure.”

“We are so pleased by the success of the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade Card and by the donation made by PLS,” said Carol Kurzig, President, Avon Foundation for Women. “PLS’s important contribution will help support the Avon Foundation’s efforts to fund access to quality breast health screening, treatment and cutting-edge breast cancer research.

“But there is still much more work to be done,” Kurzig continued, “which is why we are so appreciative of supporters like PLS that are helping us work toward a world without breast cancer.”

Since the Crusade launched in 1992, Avon breast cancer programs in 58 countries have donated more than $780 million for research and advancing access to care, regardless of a person’s ability to pay. Avon awards funding to beneficiaries ranging from leading cancer centers to community-based grassroots breast health programs to support breast cancer research and access to care. The Crusade has enabled more than 17 million women globally to receive free mammograms and breast cancer screenings, educated more than 100 million women about breast cancer, and funded promising research into the causes of breast cancer and ways to prevent the disease.
