Palo Alto, CA (PRWEB) January 16, 2013
Sofia University (formerly Institute of Transpersonal Psychology) President Neal King has been invited to participate in the Advisory Group of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations. He will participate in the Advisory Group’s initial meeting with other distinguished colleagues on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at the UN Headquarters in New York City.
The Advisory Group aims to promote dialogue and consultation with multiple stakeholders, advise the ECOSOC President on strengthening relationships between ECOSOC and multiple stakeholders in areas of interest to the Council, promote participation in global meetings and conferences, and support efforts to strengthen the role of the ECOSOC system in pursuing sustainable development.
While the Economic and Social Council has worked to strengthen partnerships with civil society, parliament, the private sector and other stakeholders for many years, the last several years in particular have seen a remarkable increase in interaction and collaboration worldwide between the Council, its functional commissions and multi-stakeholders.
The ECOSOC believes engaging in policy dialogue strengthens democratic governance, increases accountability and responsiveness to public interests, ensuring that ECOSOC decisions are more likely to be implemented at the country level.
