Burlington, Mass. (PRWEB) January 15, 2013
Scotties, a leader in the tissue industry, is pleased to announce the top 12 finalists in its 2012-2013 TREES ROCK! Video Contest. These 12 finalists are eligible to win a large cash prize, plus funding for a project to beautify their school or community. Kids who entered the contest were required to create a video up to three minutes in length on the importance of trees — to themselves, their school and their community.
The Grand Prize Winner will receive $5,000 for themselves, a trip to the Grand Canyon or Yellowstone National Park and an electronic tablet. The winner will also receive $10,000 to use towards a sustainable project for his/her school, such as tree plantings, outdoor classrooms, playgrounds, athletic fields, gardens and greenhouses.
Students were encouraged to be as creative as possible in their entries — for example, by creating a poem, a play, a speech, a song or a dance. After rigorous review by a panel of judges, entries from around the country were narrowed down to the 12 most compelling in the categories of clarity of message, relativity to the theme and creativity. Winners will be chosen by voters across America who can watch the top videos and vote for their favorite from January 15th through February 15th on http://www.scottiestreesrock.com.
“SCOTTIES is excited to bring the TREES ROCK! program to communities across the country this year. The TREES ROCK! program is a true extension of our brand promise to plant three trees for every one we use. Our goal through the TREES ROCK! program is to educate the younger generation on the importance of trees in their lives and their community,” said Joe Richards, Scotties Marketing Director.
For four years, Scotties has partnered with American Forests to plant trees, as well as to develop educational materials for schools and students about the value and benefits of forests – including those for the TREES ROCK! program. Students were provided with facts about trees and forests to refer to in their projects.
Scotties is committed to sustainability with its 3-to-1 promise, so for every one tree used, three are planted in its place. Over the last 50 years, J.D. Irving, Scotties’ parent company has planted 850 million trees in North America.

About American Forests:
American Forests restores and protects urban and rural forests. Founded in 1875, the oldest national nonprofit conservation organization in the country has served as a catalyst for many of the most important milestones in the conservation movement, including the founding of the U.S. Forest Service, the national forest and national park systems and literally thousands of forest ecosystem restoration projects and public education efforts. Since 1990, American Forests has planted more than 42 million trees in forests throughout the U.S. and in 38 countries, resulting in cleaner air and drinking water, restored habitat for wildlife and fish, and the removal of millions of tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
