Chicago, IL (PRWEB) January 16, 2013
Chicago lawyer Matthew L. Willens continues to expand his personal injury law firm.
Mr. Willens of Willens Law Offices recently hired an associate, Octavio Duran. Mr. Duran joins the firm already with some experience in representing victims and their families in car and truck accidents, medical malpractice, workers’ compensation, wrongful death, and other types of personal injury cases.
Mr. Duran speaks fluent Spanish but when asked if that is what led to Willens’ hiring decision, Willens said, “While it is a great plus for the firm’s present and future Spanish speaking clients, I would have hired him based upon his credentials, work ethic, attitude and personality even if he was not bi-lingual.”
Mr. Duran received his college degree from the University of Illinois. He then graduated from Michigan State University College of Law as the Class President. He also served as Vice-President of the Public Interest Law Society where he helped create the first ever Public Interest Law Scholarship, which aids students who participate in Public Interest Internships. He served as the liaison for the Hispanic Law Society and for Phi Alpha Delta, assisting both in creating the first alumni networking event between the two organizations. He was a member of the Moot Court Trial and Advocacy Board where he became a semi-finalist in the National Trial Competition and the American Association for Justice Competition.
Even prior to receiving his law degree, Mr. Duran tried multiple misdemeanor bench trials for the Cook County Public Defender’s Office under the authority of the Illinois Supreme Court and the certification of the Dean of his law school. Mr. Duran acquired the ability to represent clients because he was a senior law school student in great academic standing. He handled cases ranging from battery to destruction of property, and he won all of his cases.
