Application-specific Appliances Offer Affordable Secure Data Transfer to a Broad Audience

January 16, 2013 – At the Utility Cyber Security Conference being held in Atlanta, GA, January 15-17, Owl Computing Technologies, Inc., the premier source for secure, reliable, fast, one-way information sharing, introduces general availability of OPDS-100 Series of application-specific data transfer appliances for process control networks. These single-chassis, rackmountable products deliver the same hardware-enforced one-way confidentiality of the proven Owl Perimeter Defense Solution (OPDS) platform. Each appliance contains independent Send-only and Receive-only CentOS servers, connected via an integrated Owl DualDiode® transfer card operating across an opto-coupler at a budget minded 10Mbps. Each OPDS-100 appliance is designed to meet a unique secure one-way transfer need. Among industrial control systems applications are email transfer, file transfer, remote dial-in modem access, and user TCP and UDP application interfaces. Appliances specifically configured for OSIsoft® PI System® and process control OPC data transfer are also planned.

“We have listened to new client bases that recognize the value of secure one-way data transfer in their operations but whose needs are limited to a single form of data for transfer,” said Ron Mraz, Owl Computing President & CTO. “Often, the applications involve data transfer from remote subnets and unmanned locations. These client needs do not require enterprise-scale transfer capacities or extensive data filtering. Our OPDS-100 Series gives them the network security they need, for the information they wish to transfer, at a price point that suits their budgets. They also serve to introduce new customers to the organizational cybersecurity benefits of Owl Computing solutions for lab evaluations.”

Critical infrastructure (i.e., water resource management & mass transit operations), manufacturing process control (i.e. fossil, mining, chemical, oil & gas, etc.); along with the Nuclear & power generation industries have network security needs beyond those offered from software-only firewall solutions. The OPDS-100 Series provides affordable solutions that apply the most rigorous constraints on data transfer, yet enable assured information sharing. Operators with remote process control functions like substations, water pump sites, and gas compressor stations benefit from Cybersecurity deployed to these endpoints.
