Shopatron music brands see increase in sales despite wavering consumer demand.

Online retail is the clearly the fastest growing sales channel in the music industry, but the industry still needs local music stores.

Music brands who work with the retail-integrated eCommerce platform Shopatron closed out 2012 with a 17% year-over-year increase in same-store online sales. This strong growth came despite wavering consumer demand, according to Reuters. And at 17%, Shopatron brands outpaced even the most optimistic industry predictions of 10-15% for 2012.

With a number of respected music brands signing on in 2013, including Pearl Drums, Martin Guitars, SHS International, Big Bang Distribution, and DR Strings; adding to well-known clients, like Roland, Korg, D’Addario, Zildjian and Ernie Ball, Shopatron has become the go-to eCommerce solution for musical-instrument manufacturers.

Shopatron’s solution for branded manufacturers, Shopatron Manufacturer, allows brands to sell online and pass resulting orders to local retailers for delivery to the customer. This fulfillment model enables advanced-order-delivery methods like in-store pickup and ship-to-store, giving branded manufacturers a way to deliver hard-to-ship items like drum sets and amplifiers. And in the music industry, which is so firmly rooted in local shops, integrating retailers into the fulfillment process keeps local music shops healthy.

“Online retail is the clearly the fastest growing sales channel in the music industry, but the industry still needs local music stores,” said Shopatron SVP of Marketing Mark Grondin. “Local shops introduce new customers to music and support local music communities. Brands that steal sales from these shops by selling directly online risk losing local support. But brands that use Shopatron to sell online extend their support for local music shops, while encouraging them to stock more of their products. It’s a clear win-win for the music industry.”

There are approximately 60 music brands deployed on Shopatron. These brands partner with more than 1,300 music dealers who use the Shopatron Order Exchange to fulfill online orders.

Shopatron will be attending the NAMM Show in Anaheim from January 24-27. To connect with Shopatron at the show, call 866-625-5050.
