DPAC, Durham Performing Arts Center, in conjunction with Theatre in the Park, and Playmakers Repertory Company and with the help of our sponsors, Bailey's Fine Jewelry and WTVD ABC 11 are thrilled to announce the 2013 Triangle Rising Star Awards at DPAC. The Triangle Rising Star Awards is an education initiative to celebrate students who participate and excel with wide ranging talents in their high school musical.
This year, the Triangle Rising Star Awards will select Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Production and Best Chorus Ensemble through an audition process from participating high schools’ musicals in the 2012/2013 season. Teachers must first submit an Intent to Participate Form, and the requested package (recent head shot and résumé formatted to our provided template).
Note: items must be completed and mailed to DPAC no later than February 22, 2012.
Judges will attend the various high schools’ musical theater productions. The top submissions will be selected and invited back on June 1 to a closed audition where they will be viewed and judged by a selection committee. The following evening on June 2, there will be a ticketed Triangle Rising Stars event at DPAC where Best Actor and Actress will be announced. They will each be recipients of a $1000 scholarship as well. The top two Triangle students will then have the opportunity to compete in the National High School Musical Theater Awards at Broadway’s Minskoff Theatre July 1, 2013. The two winners will receive a trip to New York which includes master classes and private coaching from theatre professionals. In addition, they will have the opportunity to be seen by casting agents, meet and converse with Broadway actors, perform on a Broadway stage and compete for scholarships and other prizes.
“Theatre in the Park is proud to once again partner with the Durham Performing Arts Center and be a part of the third annual Triangle Rising Star Awards. The Triangle is full of talent. Bravo, DPAC for giving young actors and actresses an opportunity to showcase that talent,” said Brent Simpson, Program Marketing Director of Theatre in the Park.

Established by Nederlander Alliances and Pittsburgh CLO, the program recognizes individual artistry in vocal, dance, and acting performance, as well as honors teachers and their schools’ commitment to excellence in performing arts education.
