“This acknowledgement from U.S. News is certainly something to celebrate for faculty, staff and students alike,” said Brandman University Chancellor Gary Brahm.

U.S. News & World Report evaluated online education programs to identify the best in the country as part of its annual college rankings and today released the 2013 Best Online Education Program Rankings, a comprehensive list that rates programs with a weighted numerical score. Brandman University, part of the Chapman University System, was named among the top ten online bachelor’s programs in the nation. Ranked as No. 8 on the Best Online Bachelor’s Programs list for 2013, Brandman is the sole California institution among the top ten. Brandman serves some 12,000 students from across the U.S. through its online programs and at 26 campus locations in California and Washington.

“This acknowledgement from U.S. News is certainly something to celebrate for faculty, staff and students alike,” said Brandman University Chancellor Gary Brahm. “We are focused on delivering an innovative online curriculum to meet the needs of busy working adult students, providing valuable degrees when they graduate. U.S. News is making important strides for consumers by evaluating online programs in their annual rankings and we are thrilled to have landed among the top ten schools in the country for online bachelor’s programs.”

“These are the best online bachelor's degree programs, based on factors such as graduation rates, indebtedness of new graduates, and academic and career support services offered to students,” says U.S. News education reporter Kelsey Sheehy. “With the number of schools offering fully online degree programs nearly double what it was 10 years ago… more students can unlock the benefits of higher education without quitting their jobs or uprooting their families. U.S. News aims to help students evaluate their options with the 2013 Best Online Education Programs rankings,” she said.

At nearly 70 percent for the past four years, Bradman’s graduation rate exceeds the national average. Brandman University is a leader in serving adult students in the pursuit of a quality education. Brandman graduate programs in business and education were also named among the top online programs on the 2013 U.S. News list; only two California universities (CSU-Fullerton and University of San Diego) ranked ahead of Brandman in the online graduate business category and only two California universities (USC and CSU-Fullerton) ranked higher in the online graduate education category.

U.S. News collects data directly from colleges and universities, as well as from other sources. This year, the magazine reported that 92 percent of the 1,391 colleges and universities it surveyed responded to its request for statistical information; of those, 860 online programs were evaluated for the ranking list. Additional data was obtained from the American Association of University Professors, the National Collegiate Athletic Association, the Council for Aid to Education, and the U.S. Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics. The magazine evaluates and analyzes data on various indicators of academic quality and assigns a weight to each factor based on its relative importance. It then tabulates composite scores and ranks institutions against others in the same peer group.
