On January 20, 2013, One of Long Island’s leading commercial debt collection agencies, Rapid Recovery Solution, responded to a Morton Grove Champion article by Nick Katz, regarding the Illinois Comptroller’s Office planning to collect $2 million in delinquent debts.
According to the Morton Grove Champion article, “The village of Morton Grove, with help from the Illinois Comptroller’s Office, is trying to collect what officials say could be more than $2 million in unpaid parking tickets, fines and other debts.” The article states that the Comptroller’s Local Debt Recovery Program, allows governmental bodies to collect overdue and outstanding debts that are owed to them.
According to Morton Grove assistant to the village administrator, Peter Falcone, “the village is owed $1.7 million in fines from the Police Department, $450,000 in outstanding Building Department citations and $200,000 in ambulance fees.” Falcone also states in the article that the delinquent debts do not all belong to the residents of Morton Grove, but also belong to people who do not live in the village but owes the village money.
Mayor Dan Stacackman mentioned that he did not want to blindside his residents with the collection and stated that, “If you owe money you ought to pay it back. That’s a basic thing. People legitimately owe us the money and this is a legal way to collect it.”
John Monderine, CEO of one of the most sought after commercial debt collection agencies, Rapid Recovery Solution offered his thoughts and comments on Illinois Comptrollers debt collection plan. “Get out there and collect those debts, before they get harder and harder to collect,” said Monderine. “Waiting on these debts will only put you out of more money. Get the money rightfully owed to you as soon as you can.”
