Microsoft Worldwide Training Partner of the Year, NetCom Learning was recently the host to an all day free seminar event, which was held at Microsoft’s New York headquarters as part of 2013 Microsoft Launch Event Series. The all day seminar was conducted as an integral component of Microsoft’s “What’s New in Technology” campaign to provide information on Microsoft’s new certifications and new enhanced software applications and platforms that are geared to providing companies with increased work efficiencies, improvements in productivity and better ways to connect with both employees and customers. The NetCom Learning learning event provided two intensive seminars, Microsoft Server 2012 and Windows 8. At lunchtime there was also a short informational program presented by Allison Cunard, General Manager of Sales & Marketing for Microsoft Learning which addressed the skills gap, and how the new Microsoft products can make life easier for managers and executives and help the bottom line for companies. Nearly 100 attendees including IT professionals, corporate executives and managers were part of this exclusive event.

The morning session which ran from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM covered “What’s New in Windows Server 2012” including efficiency, active directory, dynamic access control, remote access, storage enhancements, networking, organizational benefits, and Windows Server 2012 certifications.
An informational session presented by Allison Cunard of Microsoft entitled, “How to build a team based on Microsoft technologies” examined the problem of the growing skill gap in IT technologies and how Microsoft is addressing the problem. Alison Cunard is the General Manager of Sales & Marketing for Microsoft Learning. She is responsible for leading the worldwide marketing and sales effort for Microsoft Learning including overseeing the certification adoption process, skills readiness, and training.
The presentation was targeted at managers and executives and ran from 11:30 AM-12:00 PM and covered how Microsoft is addressing the problem of the skills gap by reinventing their certifications in IT particularly in the area of cloud computing. The certifications are being made more robust and are moving from focusing on the IT technology itself to ensuring that holders of the certifications are well grounded in providing IT solutions. Microsoft IT certifications have been grouped into three levels of mastery from the foundational level of Associate to an Expert level and finally to Master level. The most sought after certifications are at the Expert level and include the Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) and the Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer (MCSD) certifications. Microsoft offers the largest certification program in IT in the world and is the mostly widely recognized certification. The MCSE is the flagship certification for Microsoft Learning. The presentation also provided information on the value of having MCPs on your staff, training IT staff, new Microsoft certifications and efficiencies gained with the new Microsoft products.
The intensive afternoon session which ran from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM discussed the “Key features in Microsoft Windows 8.” Included in the presentation was information on side loading applications, support for tablet devices, user interface improvements, Windows Cloud Interaction, Windows 2 Go, improved deployment and migration features, security enhancements, and Windows 8 OS Certifications.
The sessions on Microsoft Windows Server 2012 and Microsoft Windows 8 were presented by Neil Masih, Microsoft Certified Trainer for NetCom Learning and an experienced IT Manager. Neil specializes in infrastructure management at the enterprise level, and possesses more than fifteen years experience in the IT industry. He has worked with such organizations as Bethany House of Nassau County, and New Horizons Computer Learning Center. Neil also holds 18 IT certifications including being a Microsoft Certified Trainer, Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator, Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer and Administrator.
