Southern New Hampshire University will freeze 2013 online tuition rates, enabling both new and current students taking courses online or at centers in New Hampshire and Maine to continue their education throughout 2013 at last year’s tuition costs. The decision to freeze online tuition speaks to SNHU’s ongoing dedication to making quality higher education affordable for students and is just one part of many initiatives aimed at keeping costs low and helping students succeed. The tuition freeze also applies to SNHU’s Advantage Program, offered exclusively at the university’s Salem, N.H., campus, which has been nationally recognized as a low-cost, no-frills approach to higher education for students with limited time and resources.
SNHU, recognized as a top Military Friendly School®, provides active-duty military members with a 30-percent discount for online undergraduate courses. As of January 2013, a 25-percent discount is also offered for active-duty military members enrolling in online graduate courses. These discounted tuition rates are available at SNHU’s five regional centers in Nashua, Manchester, Portsmouth and Salem, N.H., and Brunswick, Maine for active-duty military students.
Beginning in March 2013, SNHU students will experience lower textbook costs as a result of new agreements with textbook and e-book vendors. According to Amelia Manning, associate vice president of Advising and Student Support, the university will offer more affordable options with new, used, rental and digital books and is working with publishers to negotiate reduced pricing. In an effort to provide the lowest pricing possible, the university is also forgoing the receipt of commission on books sold through publishers, a common practice in higher education, and passing those savings on to SNHU students instead. Manning anticipates a total minimum savings of $2.5 million for online and on-campus students. The SNHU bookstore will also be offering free ground shipping and discounted expedited shipping, adding to the potential savings for students.
“Southern New Hampshire University is deeply committed to student success,” said Steve Hodownes, CEO of SNHU’s College of Online and Continuing Education. “We believe these cost-saving initiatives allow for greater accessibility to our programs and enable students to better afford and focus on their education.”
