Jupiter, FL (PRWEB) January 18, 2013
The Honda Classic 5K is set for Jan. 19, 2013, around the picture-perfect fairways and greens of The Champion course at PGA National.
The race is one a several events preceding the high-profile golf event in Palm Beach Gardens that will feature the No. 1- and No. 2-ranked players in the world. Rory McIlroy, who recently bought one of the waterfront homes in Palm Beach Gardens, has committed to The Honda Classic, as has Tiger Woods.
The Honda Classic 5K offers participants the opportunity to run along the cart paths of The Champion course and next to the three-hole stretch known as the “Bear Trap.” Jack Nicklaus, a North Palm Beach resident who lives in Lost Tree Village, redesigned the links and added the challenging sequence.
Proceeds from The Honda Classic 5K benefit Seagull Industries for the Disabled, a West Palm Beach-based charity that aids those with intellectual disabilities by providing vocational training, employment and residential programs. The agency has served teens and adults in the community for more than 30 years and has served as an advocate for the developmentally challenged.
Registration is $35, and all runners and walkers will receive a race T-shirt, a finishers medal and refreshments following the event. Starting time is 7:30 a.m. There will be a Kid’s Fun Run at 8:30 a.m.; registration for the Fun Run is $10.
Awards will be presented to all first-, second- and third-place racers.
The Honda Classic kicked off in December of 2012, with The Junior Honda Classic. The match celebrated the game of golf and showcased youths of all ages and skill levels.
This year’s main event is Feb. 25 through March 3. All eyes will be on PGA National as the biggest names in golf descend on the community for the tournament, which kicks of the Tour’s “southern swing” through Florida.
