Children and dog lovers alike will delight in the whimsical poetry found in Monti L. Belyeu’s illustrated new book “Hot Diggity Doggerels” (published by Trafford Publishing).

While on vacation with her two dogs, Jet and Freddie, Belyeu began to think of them – and all dogs – in more “human” situations, and so the poetry in “Hot Diggity Doggerels” was born. “This is my salute to all dogs,” Belyeu explains. “I love all animals but I would have to say that Jet and Freddie are my and my husband’s best friends.”

“Doggerel” is defined as “comic verse, usually irregular in measure,” and it’s this style that Belyeu employs in the pages of “Hot Diggity Doggerels.” “Do you feed your Beagle Bagels?” and “Does your pug/Drink from a mug?” are some examples of the silly rhymes found within. Evocative illustrations bring each dog to life and offer a humorous depiction of canines performing human acts.

With an available downloadable app for children, “Hot Diggity Doggerels” is more than just a collection of humorous poems; it also can be used as a learning tool for children learning to navigate tablets and computers.
