“Perfect Pronunciation, By Jingle!” utilizes musical jingles and pictures as memory pegs, or mnemonic devices, to teach pronunciation.

Jingles are infectious, from the Oscar Meyer “Bologna” song to the “FreeCreditReport.com” commercials. It’s often hard to forget the words to these catchy tunes. Utilizing over 40 years studying and teaching languages, William F. Harrison, Ph.D. penned his new book “Perfect Pronunciation, By Jingle!” (published by iUniverse), sharing a unique method for speakers of American English to expand their vocabulary rapidly and avoid mistakes in pronunciation through the use of musical melody.

Perfect Pronunciation, By Jingle!” utilizes musical jingles and pictures as memory pegs, or mnemonic devices, to teach pronunciation. It is a tactic that he developed in his Spanish and Portuguese memory books for over 20 years, and now Harrison utilizes it in pronunciation of words in standard American English.

While using fun and lively jingles to model pronunciation patterns, Harrison encourages readers to overcome such articulation errors by mispronouncing “coleslaw” as “coldslaw” and “asked” as “axed” and to avoid a devoicing virus that is infecting the English of millions who say ”bet” instead of ”bed” and ”ice” instead of “eyes,” Harrison adds. Included are 18 obstacles to proper pronunciation, providing English speakers to rely on new, innovative ways to remember proper pronunciations instead of an archaic spelling system.

Harrison uses common words and/or parts of words (that are underlined) to illustrate the targeted word. An example is “gnaw”:

Naughty Nancy likes to be alone.
She’ll sit for hours gnawing on a bone.
