(Konica Minolta) today announces that TharpeRobbins has tripled productivity in the first six months of implementation and expanded solution offerings to customers with the help of a Konica Minolta bizhub® PRESS C8000 Color Digital Press. In addition, by participating in a test training program on how to service Konica Minolta bizhub PRESS technology, TharpeRobbins has effectively reduced downtime and overtime hours with the necessary training to keep the bizhub PRESS C8000 operating at maximum capacity.

A global leader in the managed employee reward and recognition industry, TharpeRobbins relied heavily on external vendors for the majority of print work in 2009 when the company decided to establish an in-house print facility to offset these costs and streamline its operations. The company purchased a Konica Minolta bizhub PRO C6501 Color Production Print System in late 2009 and decided to purchase a second system only three months later. In 2011, the company again needed to evaluate new solutions to complement their existing bizhub PRO C6501’s as both systems were working at maximum capacity. The Konica Minolta bizhub PRESS C8000 Color Digital Press was introduced at around the same time and it appeared to be the next logical step in allowing the company to accommodate growing volumes, and also support a broadening output portfolio.

Konica Minolta also invited TharpeRobbins to attend a test training program it was developing to teach customers how to recognize and manage maintenance issues, without necessarily needing service professionals. After the training, Konica Minolta established an inventory of frequently used parts for TharpeRobbins, thereby empowering them to make small repairs quickly. With parts on hand, the company has nearly eliminated downtime issues. The combination of the bizhub PRESS C8000’s exceptional performance capabilities and service training, tripled the company’s productivity in the first six months of implementation; reduced overall downtime, overtime and waste; and enabled an output volume of 60,000 impressions a week.

“Learning how to make minor repairs has greatly increased our uptime. Previous equipment may have been out of production for several days awaiting a service technician or replacement parts, but our productivity has increased dramatically due to machine reliability and outstanding support from Konica Minolta,” said Todd Bolin, digital print manager for TharpeRobbins. “Konica Minolta also delivered a proposal that included the addition of extra paper trays, a booklet maker and other finishing options for future expansion of our print portfolio three, four and five years down the road. We couldn’t be more pleased with this partnership and how it has changed our business.”

Since TharpeRobbins first launched in-house digital printing over two years ago, the company is now quickly approaching the five millionth click on its Konica Minolta equipment. The company continues to evaluate workflow processes, emerging technologies in the digital printing field, and the latest technology offerings from Konica Minolta to support and expand its recognition solutions offerings into the future.
