Prescott, Arizona (PRWEB) January 22, 2013

Southwest Skin and Cancer Institute is pleased to announce that Alyssa Frainier has joined the staff in Prescott, Arizona. A native of New York, she received her Bachelor of Science degree in biology from the State University of New York College at Potsdam. In May 2012, she graduated with a Master of Science degree in biology from the State University of New York College of Brockport. After presenting her thesis, she collaborated as a co-author on a manuscript entitled Identification of Novel Lipin Homologue From the Parasitic Protozoan Trypanosoma brucei, which will be published in the journal BMC Microbiology, in early 2013. Alyssa comments, “I believe that my interest in infectious disease will serve me well as a medical assistant at Southwest Skin and Cancer Institute and I am excited to learn about other aspects of skin disease in my new position.”

“Since my recent move to Arizona, I have become more conscious about protecting my skin from ultraviolet damage and skin cancer,” notes Alyssa. Board-certified dermatologist Robin Fleck, MD is the founder and medical director of Southwest Skin and Cancer Institute. She states, “Skin cancer is not only preventable but is easily treatable if detected early.”

Ultraviolet light is not completely blocked by SPF sunscreens which eliminate only UV-B light, so many people get a false sense of security by applying sunscreens. The use of state-of-the-art topical vitamin C and vitamin E lotions available at Southwest Skin and Cancer Institute are an effective way of blocking not only UV-B, but also UV-A rays, the other harmful solar radiation. “Dr. Fleck provides sun protection advice, including the use of clothing, hats and topical vitamin C and E products, to all her patients,” remarks Alyssa.

Ultraviolet radiation also causes premature aging including age spots, enlarged facial veins, and wrinkles. At Body Oasis Laser Aesthetic Medical Spa, Alyssa assists Dr. Fleck with the Active FX fractional CO2 laser to resurface and remove the signs of premature aging. Botox and cosmetic fillers are also utilized to maintain a more youthful appearance without the need for costly and risky cosmetic surgical procedures, like facelift.

Dr. Fleck treats patients with acne which is a common skin disease that causes pimples and blackheads. Most pimples occur on the face, neck, back and shoulders. Although acne affects everyone, teenagers are more susceptible. Acne is associated with poor diet, such as sugar and a high carbohydrate diet, and hormone changes. If left untreated, acne may lead to scarring.
Alyssa also serves as a medical assistant at Dr. Fleck’s varicose vein treatment center, Vein Specialties. Varicose veins are incompetent, visible veins, seen in the legs and ankles. They are more than just a cosmetic nuisance since they can cause pain, heaviness and swelling and eventually more dire consequences including leg ulcers or blood clots in the legs. Varicose veins occur because of heredity, leg trauma, heavy lifting, and prolonged standing. Spider veins can be associated with venous disease. Although the appearance of spider veins does not always indicate a serious problem, patients with multiple spider veins should be evaluated to rule out venous insufficiency. Treatment of varicose veins involves a simple, safe and effective 20 minute procedure called endovenous laser ablation (EVLA) which is covered by most insurance companies.

In addition to her other duties, Alyssa has shown exceptional ability in helping to market Dr. Fleck’s practices through the use of social media including Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and Pinterest. She has an uncanny knack in using these tools to showcase the practice website http://www.rejuvadoc.com.

Cosmetic dermatologist, Robin Fleck, M.D., is a double board certified dermatologist and internist, recognized by the American Board of Dermatology and the American Board of Internal Medicine. She is founder and Medical Director of Southwest Skin and Cancer Institute and Body Oasis Laser Aesthetics. Dr. Fleck is a fellow of the American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery and the American Academy of Dermatology. Dr. Fleck is also the founder of Vein Specialties in Prescott, Arizona and a member of the American Venous Forum and the American College of Phlebology.
