Gannett Fleming has acquired Griffin Engineering and Technical Services, headquartered in Morrisville, N.C. Effective January 13, Griffin Engineering became part of Gannett Fleming’s national Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering Practices, bringing a wide range of professional engineering services.
Through the acquisition, Gannett Fleming expands its presence in the Research Triangle region of North Carolina, where the firm has a Raleigh office that specializes in the planning and design of transportation and environmental projects. It also broadens Gannett Fleming’s capabilities with the addition of TAB assessments and increases its client base in the healthcare, pharmaceutical, biotech, and commercial industries.
“This new dimension to our market coverage complements our growth strategy and offers our clients a broader array of building and system services from one source,” said Robert M. Scaer, P.E., president and COO of Gannett Fleming. “Expanding in a prominent, high-tech research and development area underscores our commitment to deliver fresh, innovative solutions that solve our clients’ challenges.”
Services include more extensive engineering design; current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), commissioning, and qualification; testing, adjusting, and balancing (TAB) of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems; building systems commissioning; energy analysis; and LEED® consultation.
Griffin Engineering was founded in 2003 by Staci Griffin, who served as president, and Jim Griffin, P.E., CxA, EMP, LEED® AP, the firm’s vice president and principal engineer. A veteran with more than 20 years of engineering experience, Jim Griffin now serves as vice president, engineering and technical services for Gannett Fleming. In her new role, Staci Griffin assists project managers in planning, managing, and delivering services.
All former Griffin Engineering employees will continue to operate out of their existing office in Morrisville and offer engineering, commissioning, validation, and TAB services. Their experience includes such marquee projects as LEED commissioning for the third McDonald’s® restaurant in the U.S.—and North Carolina’s first—to be LEED® certified.
They also performed commissioning of the Durham Performing Arts Center, commissioning and balancing of a data center for the U.S. Navy, and energy audits for the North Carolina State Energy Office and its clients across the state.
“After growing the firm for 10 years, I was seeking an opportunity to join forces with a company that has experience in a wider variety of projects and services that will enable our staff to grow and meet the changing needs of our clients,” Jim Griffin said. “We are excited to be part of an internationally respected firm that shares our commitment to quality, innovation, and excellence.”
