Sims wants to encourage e-waste recycling by offering consumers free hard drive destruction on Data Privacy Day, which will prevent personal information from getting into the wrong hands.
West Chicago, IL (PRWEB) January 23, 2013
Sims Recycling Solutions, the global leader in electronics reuse and recycling and a business of Sims Metal Management, is offering free hard drive destruction on Jan. 28, 2013, in support of Data Privacy Day, an annual international event focusing attention on the importance of data privacy and protection. This service will be available at participating Sims Recycling Solutions facilities throughout the United States on this day only. Digital data destruction services will be limited to one hard drive per customer. For information about the destruction of multiple hard drives, please call the local Sims Recycling Solutions facility.
Participating locations will have equipment on-site to degauss and/or destroy hard drives, allowing customers to witness the process. After the hard drive is destroyed, Sims will provide a certificate of destruction to each customer. The certificate confirms and documents the complete and secure destruction of the customer’s data.
“People are becoming more aware of the need to properly dispose of their old electronics, but legitimate concerns about the security of the data on those devices can be a barrier to recycling,” stated Steve Skurnac, President, Sims Recycling Solutions, Americas. “Sims wants to encourage e-waste recycling by offering consumers free hard drive destruction on Data Privacy Day, which will prevent personal information from getting into the wrong hands.”
Data Privacy Day, organized by the National Cyber Security Alliance, is an effort to empower people to protect their privacy, control their digital footprint, and make the protection of privacy and data everyone’s priority. The need for digital data security affects everyone because our current technology allows us to collect, store and transfer vast amounts of confidential information.
