“God, please grant me a miracle!” This heart-wrenching prayer has perhaps escaped from the lips of countless of people especially in the wake of the recent mall and school shootings and the global financial crisis. Author Esperanza Rivera is neither a saint nor an authority on spiritual matters. However, her deep faith made her utter the same prayer throughout the illness and until the death of her 23-year-old daughter, Christee, and had received her answer. Now, Rivera shares their life-changing journey in her newly published book, titled A Witness of Miracles.
“I knew that friends and family knew her well and therefore knew her life…I must admit I was very angry and could not move past the fact that she was so young, full of life, and did not deserve to die,” shares Rivera. “After weeks of reliving the same scenes in my head, I realized that Christee’s life was not just the events that led to her death…I needed to find something that would not necessarily ease my pain but look at Christee’s life in its entirety, concentrate on her life, treasure every day of her life…”
Rivera’s story is about a series of real life events she witnessed, normal and ordinary—or perhaps not. It is mainly the story of an infant, a child, and the beautiful young woman that she became. It is the story of her daughter’s remarkably inspiring, though short, full of courage, resolve and full of zest for life, always pushing the envelope to live life to the fullest. This is a story about Christee who, in her kind and gentle ways, had helped people to discover how an ordinary life may be transformed into a life filled with God’s miracles, hope and love.
Evocative, inspiring and a wellspring of great faith, A Witness of Miracles is a book that takes readers on a spiritual journey through pain, suffering, illness and death, and on to life once again. Just as the little miracles she experienced transformed her family’s life, Rivera has also transformed an agonizing experience into a life-giving book that will continue to touch readers’ lives long after they have turned its final pages.
“God has granted some miracles in my life… I feel compelled to share with everyone the greatness of my Lord and how He intervened and presented Himself in my life and allowed me to witness the greatness of His works and miracles through my family…” adds Rivera. “Journey with me, my story, my pain, and [Christee’s] pain our happiness and my soul searching for answers.”
