Barrow Patch, a local news outlet, has reported that the Georgia State Patrol has announced the statistics regarding traffic accidents during the New Year’s Holiday. The Atlanta car accident lawyers at Rechtman & Spevak, whose law firm Web site URL can be found at http://www.rsinjurylawyers.com, would like to share the release of the statistics.

The Atlanta accident attorneys at the law firm of Rechtman & Spevak not only work to represent the legal interests of people who have been wrongfully injured or worse in Georgia car accidents, but the attorneys at the firm also make it part of their mission to provide the public with information that could help them become safer on the state’s roads. As such, the firm would like to help to publicize the announcement that was recently made by the Georgia State Patrol and reported by Patch.com regarding the number of traffic accidents that occurred across the state during the New Year’s holiday. The article on the Patch Network that appeared on January 2, 2013 was entitled, "Georgia State Patrol: Six Killed in Traffic Crashes During New Year's Travel Period".

Specifically, the Georgia State Patrol announced that a total of six people were killed in crashes during the New Year’s holiday, which spanned for 102 hours from Friday through Tuesday. In addition, the GSP investigated a total of 585 traffic crashes across the state that led to injuries to 266 people. Finally, the agency reports that more than 300 people were arrested across Georgia on suspicion of DUI during this holiday period.

These numbers are somewhat consistent with the statistics that relate to the New Year’s holiday of last year, when only 78 hours were considered to be part of the relevant timeframe. During that holiday, the GSP investigated just under 300 overall crashes that led to 13 fatalities and to 172 injuries. 262 people were arrested during last year’s holiday on suspicion of DUI.

The statistics relating to the number of crashes that occurred during the New Year’s holiday are of concern to the Atlanta accident lawyers at Rechtman & Spevak, especially when one considers the overall statistics regarding Georgia traffic accidents. According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, more than 300,000 traffic accidents occur in the state every year, and these crashes lead to more than 130,000 injuries and to approximately 1,500 fatalities.
