Mind x Motion will launch a Kickstarter campaign January 23, 2013. The campaign will fund development of Plak, a design productivity app for iPad. The goal of the campaign is $60,000. Backer rewards include a limited edition poster by David Carson Design. There will be opportunities for corporate partnerships, including the support of development on other platforms and in-app purchases of services.

Nicholas Paredes, cofounder of Mind x Motion, was inspired to create the app after studying typography in Basel with Wolfgang Weingart. The tools were simple -- scissors, tape, and glass to view the designs -- but allowed the designer to create fluidly. Even then, it was apparent that tablets would change the design process.

"I began by asking myself, 'How is design different on the iPad?'" Paredes said. "In 1984 when the Mac launched, designers used it to create entirely new work. Mind x Motion sees similar opportunities with the iPad."

The clean, elegant interface will make the app appealing. It will be robust enough for professional ideation, but will also contain templates for the entry level designer. While many tools exist for drawing, elegant tools such as Paper have garnered applause for focusing on the experience of creating. Our goal is to create just such a tool for the graphic designer, one that feels like an extension of their creativity rather than the computer they now use.

Mind x Motion will launch a Kickstarter campaign for Plak on January 23, 2013. Backer rewards include a limited edition poster by David Carson, one of the early users of the Mac in design. To back this project, please go to http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/nicholasparedes/plak?ref=category
