Sylvia Morris and her poetry rise to the currents of modern youthful expressions and concerns with the new poetry collection From My Heart to Yours. It is an anthology of contemporary rap poetry coupled with some breathtaking photographs of sceneries from the island of St. Vincent & The Grenadines. It’s the author's way of introducing the island to the world while sharing her life experiences to whosoever will listen or read her poetry.
Morris lets it all hang out, rapping a rhapsody about the islands in the anthemic cadences of rap verse. Like many forms of versification, rap incorporates rhyme, alliteration and percussive rhythms, a word dance that translates rap into immediacy and the urgency of youthful concerns. The island geography and climate channel youth, physical freedom and a love for life expressed without reticence or doubt.
For anyone who has never visited St. Vincent & The Grenadines, it is Sylvia Morris’ hope that readers will be motivated by this book to take the trip out to the Caribbean. For those who have not visited in a long time, the author urges them to please return and take a friend. From My Heart to Yours is therefore that perfect bright welcome to the Caribbean.
