Greenberg Traurig Expands its M&A Practice With the Addition of Margaret Isa Butler in New York

The international law firm Greenberg Traurig LLP announced that Margaret Isa Butler has joined its New York City office as of counsel where she will focus on mergers and acquisitions and joint ventures. Prior to her legal career she was an investment banker.

“Margaret’s transactions experience complements the firm’s growing M&A practice,” said David Schwartzbaum, Co-Chair of the Global M&A Steering Committee at Greenberg Traurig. “She brings experience with private equity industry best practices, sound business judgment, and a keen execution focus that serves her clients well.”

Butler provides general advisory services to help investment funds respond to the institutionalization of private equity on an outsourced, flexible basis and in proportion to their scale. She has broad deal advisory and execution experience on both the buy side and sell side, and has led the execution of significant and complicated deals, including cross-border, distressed and other high-stakes M&A and joint ventures. Butler also assists private equity clients with managing back office functions and corporate compliance at both the fund and the portfolio company levels.

“We are pleased to have a knowledgeable and talented attorney like Margaret join Greenberg Traurig where she will continue to advise private equity clients and focus on complex and international mergers and acquisitions. She brings a unique perspective having advised clients both as an attorney and an investment banker,” said Dennis J. Block, Senior Chairman, Global Corporate M&A Practice at the firm.

Butler joins a number of recent additions to Greenberg Traurig’s M&A practice. Recent additions include Dennis J. Block and David Schwartzbaum in New York City; David Gitlin in Philadelphia; Frank Adams in London; Nicolas Borda in Mexico City; Jaroslaw Grzesiak and Lejb Fogelman in Warsaw; Kemal Hawa in Tysons Corner and Jude Kearney in Washington, D.C.

In addition, Butler has spoken at a distressed investing conference and has been published in The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal.
