Children need to know that they are unique and need to be themselves

The act of wanting something better for oneself and the obsession of unhealthy changes is a fine line to walk, and one that many people, especially children, struggle with. In, “I'm Just a Crow” (published by Trafford Publishing), a new illustrated children’s book, author Cal Davis presents the story of a crow learning to accept himself for who and what he is, a moral that young readers will benefit from.

A crow, who is a plain-looking bird, wants to be beautiful like other birds. He thinks about being something else, and imagines himself as many of his animal friends. Shall he be a cat? A duck? Would he be happier as an owl? In each case, the crow realizes that being himself is the best.

An excerpt from “I’m Just a Crow”:

“Come to think of it, if I was another bird, I couldn’t play games with my crow buddies. We crows love to play games.
I guess the best thing for me to be is… ME!”

Davis’ hope with “I’m Just a Crow” is that children will learn to value themselves. “Children need to know that they are unique and need to be themselves,” he says.
