“It’s amazing to see the van actually come to life,” said NAFA’s Executive Director Phillip E. Russo, CAE.

Who says print is dead? Certainly not NAFA Fleet Management Association whose January/February 2013 issue of FLEETSolutions magazine bridges the gap between print, online, and live-action video. The new issue features a “trick cover”, which shows a van with its vehicle wrap being stripped. When readers open the cover they are presented with the van fully wrapped in its new look, promoting NAFA’s 2013 Institute & Expo and a QR code that links to a YouTube video showing a real van having its vehicle wrap replaced by a new one. Essentially, the vehicle shown in the magazine comes to life!
Associated Graphics, Inc. of Plain City, OH – a NAFA Affiliate -- performed and filmed the operation, cutting hours of footage into a three-minute video that shows the painstaking process in action. The video begins with a look at the print magazine as the pages turn until the article on vehicle wraps is reached, at which point the camera reveals the real van and the initial removal of the original wrap.
“It’s amazing to see the van actually come to life,” said NAFA’s Executive Director Phillip E. Russo, CAE. “We wanted to do something different with this issue and the topic of vehicle wraps gave us that opportunity. When I first saw the finished video, I was blown away. I immediately thought, ‘How do I get that van?’ I would gladly pay them to let me drive that van for the next four months to promote the conference!”
This was the first time NAFA had ever tried combining print, online, and video within an article, but it won’t be the last. The Association has plans to further the use of video within its publications in 2013, especially within NAFAConnection, the Association’s latest publication, which plans on utilizing video to showcase NAFA Chapters and members in action.
