Located in a private wildlife conservancy adjacent to the Masai Mara National Reserve, Porini Mara is a small eco safari camp focused on sustainable tourism. Having won numerous industry awards over the past decade for their innovative approach to tourism, the TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice Award has been a welcome addition as it is voted for by guests.
The Porini concept focuses on offering guests an authentic safari experience through working with the local Maasai. The private 17,500 acre conservancy which is owned by the Maasai contains only 6 guest tents. Visitor numbers are strictly limited to prevent any adverse impacts through tourism and solar power provides all electricity. The land was previously utilised for farming and animal husbandry which led to human - wildlife conflict in the region which was threatening animal populations. Poaching is virtually non-existant as the locals are invested in the wildlife.
Through being within a private conservancy, guests are able to take guided walks with Maasai warriors learning tracking tips handed down through generations and it is this more personal experience that has earned Porini Mara 185 'Excellent' reviews on TripAdvisor.
The Porini Camps are owned and managed by Gamewatchers Safaris, a specialist tour operator based in Kenya. There are 4 Porini camps, each located adjacent to popular National Parks and dedicated to sustainable ecotourism.
