PritzkerOlsen, P.A. has filed lawsuits* against Stryker Orthopaedics, Inc. (Stryker) on behalf of patients, who allege that their hip implants failed due to chromium and cobalt poisoning (metallosis). Attorneys Fred Pritzker and of Counsel David Szerlag are leading the firm’s Stryker litigation team. Howmedica Osteonics Corporoation does business as Stryker Orthopaedics, Inc.

In June of 2012, Stryker Orthopaedics, Inc. recalled its Rejuvenate and ABG II modular-neck hip stems due to possible fretting and corrosion, which can lead to metallosis (metal poisoning from chromium and cobalt), according to the FDA. Stryker’s own product information** states that this can cause adverse local tissue reactions, as well as possible pain and/or swelling at or around the hip.

“New information released by Stryker** confirms what we suspected, that even patients who are not experiencing pain, swelling or any symptoms of metallosis are at risk and need to contact their surgeon,” said Pritzker. On its website**, Stryker states, “Stryker suggests that patients who have received a Rejuvenate or ABG II modular-neck hip stem contact their surgeon to schedule a follow-up appointment even if they are not experiencing symptoms such as pain and/or swelling at or around their hip.”
