With Google Shopping set to change from a free to a paid service in the coming weeks, the search marketers at SEO Positive have taken a look at the success of the transition in the U.S.

Inevitably, some retailers were annoyed when the service moved to a commercial model in the U.S. in October, however it has been reported that research from Marin Software, a leading provider of online advertising management solutions, has shown that those who have used the product listings appear to be reaping the benefits. Click share for product listing ads (PLAs) increased in the U.S from 2.1% December 12th to 6.6% January 12th. It was also found that PLAs ended the year with a higher click through rate (CTR) and lower average cost than text ads.

Offering a bespoke range of organic and paid search advertising, the team at Essex-based agency, SEO Positive were naturally intrigued by the latest news. Managing Director Ben Austin speculates on the arrival of the paid platform in the UK.

“We’re expecting Google Shopping to make the transition on February 13th so it will be interesting to see if retailers in this country have the same success. Having said that, the results shown may also be attributed to an increase in product related searches during the holiday season”, explains Ben.
