Fremont Micro Devices USA Inc. a major manufacture and designer of Serial EEPROM and energy efficient power management integrated circuit products announced the FT825-12S480 controller module, a high efficiency, isolated, high power factor, LED driver module for replacement T8 tube designs. The double sided PCB was designed to be assembled in limited T8 tube space and is less than 10mm high by17mm wide and is only 216mm long.

The LED driver module is a plug-and-play solution that requires no external components. The FT825-12S480 module design is very cost effective because of minimal component count. Our objective was to keep the LED driver ultra thin and highly energy efficient. The FT825-12S480 LED controller module is based on the recently announced FT825 LED driver Integrated Circuit. The module delivers a power factor greater than 0.93 and low THD of 20% meeting EN61000-3-2 harmonics limits. The design is EMI compliant exceeding the EN55015 and FCC Part 18 Class B standard. The driver module deliver 20W (90V – 264Vac) at an efficiency as high as 88 percent with output current of 0.48A for LED strings.
The significant advantage of the isolated, PSR, flyback topology is its wide output voltage. This is an important parameter. The amount of output voltage required is determined by how many LED’s a design will string together in series.
