Doctors Health Press, a division of Lombardi Publishing Corporation and publisher of various natural health newsletters, books, and reports, including the popular online Doctors Health Press e-Bulletin, is reporting on a new health breakthrough, published in the Journal of Clinical Investigation, finding a definitive link between stress and prostate cancer.
As Doctors Health Press e-Bulletin (http://www.doctorshealthpress.com/cancer-articles/prostate-cancer-thrives-on-this-common-condition) notes, men, especially those at a higher risk of the often fatal disease, should aim to reduce the amount of stress in their lives. While it’s known that prostate cancer patients have increased levels of stress and anxiety, the results of several recent studies suggest that if the stress is blocked, the cancer could be blocked.
As the article “Prostate Cancer Thrives on This Common Condition” reports, researchers examined the relationship between stress and cancer progression in mice. They discovered that mice that are subjected to stress (in this case, exposed to the scent of a predator) responded significantly less to a drug that kills cancer cells, compared to mice under no stress.
The Doctors Health Press e-Bulletin article adds that administering adrenaline also blocked cancer cell death. The flip side was also true. Drugs that worked against adrenaline signaling heightened the effect of stress on prostate cancer.
Doctors Health Press e-Bulletin concludes by noting that, while there is a good deal of suggestive evidence that stress and anxiety put men at greater risk of prostate cancer, it is imperative that everyone tries to reduce stress in their lives, as it is one of the world’s most prevalent causes of disease.
