In the late hours of Wednesday, Quantcast ranked MapsofWorld.com 981 in its list of top 1000 American websites by traffic; this means that MapsofWorld.com receives more traffic than a number of popular sites including marriott.com, fashionglamor.com, nationalreview.com, and wikitionary.org. Quantcast rankings are considered to be an industry standard and are used for categorizing and monitoring the traffic of websites.
Before September 2010, MapsofWorld.com was consistently among the top 1000 US websites but the Google Panda update which caused major changes to site positioning on search engines caused a dip in traffic volumes for the mapping and research portal. According to the CEO, Mr. Simarprit Singh, MapsofWorld.com took this as an opportunity to reposition the website by looking at a complete overhaul of the content. Having shed volumes, the portal went on to build a unique repository of content based on the needs and searches of its community of users. The site has since then initiated a weekly infographic series called FryDay Poll based on global concerns and worldwide issues, and many other unique projects. Mr. Singh says “Instead of repackaging old wine, we decided to discover a new, better variety of grapes and make superlative wine”
Keeping the users at the center seems to have worked for MapsofWorld.com and as their traffic has increased, visitors have started to repeatedly visit the site as a solution to their research needs. Over the last year, the site has been consistently adding new unique content and focused on providing high quality, rich content. In addressing the site’s commitment to quality, Mr. Singh said, "Numbers are the outcome of our consistent action. We have been providing value in the travel and education domains. We are constantly increasing our understanding and knowledge of our users’ needs, and are constantly keeping the website current and accurate. Our success lies in the fundamentals and we intend to stay ahead for time to come"
