Located in the heart of Austria, Schladming are preparing for the FIS Alpine Ski World Championships; this is the second time in history since 1982 that they will be hosts to one of the most talked about sporting events. From 4 – 17 February 2013, Schladming are expecting around 400,000 visitors to be a part of this much anticipated ski festival.

The 14 days of the Ski World Championships will see 650 athletes from 70 nations compete for 33 medals in eleven disciplines. There will be over 3000 media representatives who will be reporting from around the world on the events as they happen. On defining the vision of the organisational committee the Austrian Ski Association President, Prof. Peter Schröcksnadel stated “A Ski World Championship like never before”, setting the bar very, very high.

For decades Schladming has been a traditional winter sports destination and a venue for major sporting events making it the perfect location to stage the FIS Alpine Ski World Championships having over 50,000 avid ski fans arriving annually for the Schladming slalom night-race. The ski resort is at the altitude of 745m (2,444ft); 173kms of Piste in Dachstein Tauren (111kms connecting to Schladming), and the longest run is 7.7kms which can be accessed through one of their 81 lifts.
