Research has shown that 5-10% of children experience sensory symptoms significant enough to affect aspects of everyday life functions.
DENVER, Colo. (PRWEB) January 31, 2013
STAR (Sensory Therapies And Research) Center announces an expansion of its speech and language therapy program and its family counseling services. These services augment STAR Center’s occupational therapy and feeding therapy services that benefit families impacted by Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD), autism spectrum disorders, anxiety disorders, childhood apraxia of speech, emotional and behavioral disorders, sensory-based learning disorders, and other developmental issues.
STAR Center is known as the premier clinic for treatment of children and adults with SPD and other sensory challenges. Each year, hundreds of families from Colorado and around the world come to the Colorado treatment center for hope and help. “Research has shown that 5-10% of children experience sensory symptoms significant enough to affect aspects of everyday life functions,” said Dr. Lucy Jane Miller, founder of the STAR Center.
These expanded programs will utilize the intensive treatment protocol of the STAR Center, resulting in significant and quick improvement. The STAR Center treatment model is a parent-centered philosophy focusing on parent priorities, extensive parent education and participation.
Family Counseling Services address the social and emotional needs of the whole family. Services include parent coaching, childhood social assessments and play therapy. Directed by Dr. Roianne Ahn, the services also include family therapy as well as individual and couples counseling.
Speech and Language Therapy Services are provided by certified speech language pathologists for all language delays using play-based approaches that engage children to expand their skills through natural and functional interactions. The intensive treatment program for childhood apraxia of speech is unique in Colorado and conforms to guidelines from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
The expanded services complement STAR Center’s comprehensive occupational therapy services and S.O.S. Feeding Solutions program. For more information about the STAR Center and its programs, go to http://www.spdstar.org or contact the Center at 303-221-STAR (7827) or info(at)spdstar(dot)org.
