The Postal Service has requested an exigent postal increase of 5.9%—more than normally would be allowed. If approved by the Postal Regulatory Commission, this increase would take place in January 2014.
In opposition of the U.S. Postal Service’s proposed postal increase, RevSpring has joined forces with the Affordable Mail Alliance, a coalition of more than 1,000 non-profits, Fortune 500 companies, small businesses, major trade associations, consumer groups and citizens to collectively voice their concern.
The Affordable Mail Alliance opposes a drastic above-inflation rate hike, on the grounds that it would only compound the USPS’s fiscal troubles by reducing volumes, while harming mailers, small businesses and consumers who will bear the brunt of the additional costs. RevSpring recognizes the negative impact rising postage costs have on receivables organizations and is actively investing time and resources to slow this trend.
In addition to working with the alliance, RevSpring is directly contacting members of Congress to enact postal systems reforms with the goal of improving the overall financial health of the USPS. We believe these needed reforms are the key to ensuring a financially viable postal system. Relying on exigent postal increases instead of the needed reforms will only serve to increase the USPS financial deficiencies. RevSpring believes that as postage costs continue to increase, receivables organizations will be forced to further rely on electronic methods of communication. For this reason, RevSpring offers secure electronic communication and payments technology.
RevSpring will continue to fight against rising postage costs and will keep clients informed as more information is available.
