Lower eyelid blepharoplasty is a complicated procedure and one that is fraught with potentially serious and disfiguring complications. In fact, when Hollywood stars have “bad” plastic surgery, it is usually the lower eyelids that are the problem.
In an effort to help patients avoid such issues and yet achieve a natural and rested look, Dr. Core has once again developed an innovative and minimally invasive technique.
In keeping with his prior development of minimally invasive techniques in the face, breast and abdomen, Dr. Core has now developed a lower lid rejuvenation procedure which avoids an incision in the lower eyelid, yet accomplishes total rejuvenation in properly selected candidates.
The latest development was recently published in the prestigious medical journal, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Journal. The study spanned a six year period, where Dr. Core performed "lower eyelid rejuvenation with only a lateral incision in 89 consecutive cases in 86 women and three men ranging in age from 42 to 65."
In traditional lower eyelid procedures, the incision will go through either the skin and muscle in front of the eyelid or behind. With Dr. Core’s new lateral access re-contouring of the lower eyelid, however, the incision is tiny and is beside the lid. He then completely re-contours the lower eyelid, and without cutting any muscle or removing any fat, then lifts and tightens the lid.
Thus far, in over 100 patients (both those participating in the study and others) there have been no lower eyelid complications, leading to the odd appearance characteristic of problems in this area. The conclusion of the study is that, "Lateral incision-only lower lid blepharoplasty allows all necessary structures to be addressed for rejuvenation by recontouring in selected patients without anterior or posterior incisions into the central part of the lid."
Recovery generally takes about 2 weeks and there are only three stitches near the corner of the eye. For further information, please contact Core Plastic Surgery.
