Environmental protection is one of the main challenges in the Mediterranean Sea, the region that is set to become a new hotspot for oil and gas activities. By directly exploiting natural resources, the responsibility to create a sustainable environment has become one of the main considerations for IOCs. It is a priority for the Mediterranean countries and for the operators to continue building a consistent and collective regulatory environment to ensure a safe, healthy and sustainable foundation for oil and gas activities.

The European Commissioner for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Maria Damanaki along with Nadia Giannakopoulou General Secretary of the Greek Ministry for Environment, Energy and Climate Change, will provide an exclusive update on the latest regulations for environmental protection.

Moreover, Toula Onoufriou, Professor at the Cyprus University of Technology and Advisor to the President of Cyprus, as well as Simone Tagliapietra, Researcher at the Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei (FEEM), present at the HSE MED 2014 Summit on the safety and environmental protection regime in the East Mediterranean region and the Mediterranean energy cooperation as one of the key elements to build a long-term sustainable industry.

The HSE Med 2014 Summit, focusing on Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Malta, Cyprus, Lebanon, Israel, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia and Algeria, will show the industry how to deliver the right level of standards and improve operations through the revision of their perception of risk and environmental management plans.
