Apppulp Calls Out Developers for Its User Engagement Based Discovery Engine

The new startup puts user engagement at forefront in order to provide a better way of discovery.

We aim to promote quality games and our definition of quality is simple. If your game is good enough to make a user play it over and over again, then it’s good!

Apppulp, a new discovery platform for iOS games, is now calling developers to get involved in its unique user-engagement based discovery engine. The startup aims to develop a solution that would link discovery with the quality of games rather than their marketing budgets or download numbers. Developers are required to add a single line code which helps in tracking user activity. This activity-based data is then used to rate iOS game apps on the basis of user involvement.

The founder of the startup, Arqam Gadit, said: “I was once involved in marketing a game I created for a small game development studio and I still remember the hardships we faced when we started marketing. During this period, I observed that a lot of developers have a real problem in getting themselves noticed.”

“This is why I think a discovery platform like Apppulp is the need of hour. We aim to promote quality games and our definition of quality is simple. If your game is good enough to make a user play it over and over again, then it’s good! Consequently, this will help it rank higher on our charts. How many downloads you have and how much money you can spend is irrelevant to us. This creates a win-win solution for all: Gamers play games that are actually being enjoyed and developers think more about improving their game’s engagement and replay value. This is our humble solution to game discovery dilemma that plagues the App Store these days.”

Currently, there are almost 150,000 games in the App Store; however, 97% of the generated revenue goes in the pockets of the top 20%. Indies and small-sized studios have little hope of getting their titles noticed. This is why Apppulp believes that the solution lies in moving away from download-centric ratings to other discovery mechanisms, like user engagement.
