Representatives with A Stay in the Country Pet Lodging announced today that it has signed a safety pledge with The Dog Gurus, one of the nation’s most recognized companies for dog safety and training.

“We’re excited about this pledge we made and signed on October 1,” said Harriet Pittman, owner of A Stay in the Country Pet Lodging.

Under the pledge, A Stay in the Country Pet Lodging has vowed to have a program that has been designed for the safety of all dogs.

The goal, according to Pittman, is for every dog to go home from its center behaviorally and emotionally better than when they arrived.

A Stay in the Country Pet Lodging has bred Border Collies, Livestock Guardian Dogs and Angora Goats for more than 18 years.

“Both my husband Kevin and I grew up working in family businesses and decided to start our own venture,” Pittman pointed out, before adding, “Our son, Will, helps us raise our Border Collies, Anatolian Shepherds, Standard Frizzle Cochin Chickens, Narragansett Turkeys and Navajo style Angora Goats.”

The company, Pittman noted, has a few pet alpacas and cats in the mix as well.

“My experience working in kennels, breeding and competing with Champion Anatolian Shepherds and Border Collies led me to open A Stay in the Country Pet Lodging,” Pittman said.

In addition to ensuring safety, under the pledge, A Stay in the Country Pet Lodging, promised that it would educate all staff on dog behavior and safe play management through a formal training program that includes continuing education.

A Stay in the Country Pet Lodging will provide climate controlled, physical play space that meets or exceeds industry baselines for size, material safety, and security. Plus, require trained staff members to be physically present with the dogs 100 percent of the time when dogs are playing off-leash together.
