Innovative Software Engineering has been awarded a two-year project sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) designed to pilot a system to safeguard truck-shipped wholesale and retail fuels. The project is being managed by Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), a multi-program science and technology laboratory in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, with the U.S Department of Energy.
“This project has significant importance to the federal government and fuel carrier industry,” said Hass Machlab, ISE president and CEO. “We are honored to be selected by Oak Ridge National Laboratory to supply software engineering services for the duration of this program.”
The purpose of the pilot is to evaluate the effectiveness of a monitoring system to safeguard against tax evasion or theft of tanker-truck-borne wholesale and retail fuels before they reach their destinations. The pilot will be conducted in a real-world setting and take advantage of integrated technology installed on tanker-trucks. The overall goal is to develop a working production system that will help the FHWA evaluate the feasibility of this kind of system. ISE will provide an end-to-end telematics application that will capture vehicle, GPS and trailer-sensor information, provide a mobile interface for driver use, transmit information wirelessly in real-time to a backend system deployed on the cloud, and integrate this information with ORNL-provided logic to flag suspicious activity. The solution will be developed by customizing ISE’s eFleetSuite product, which provides electronic driver logs among other features to enable fleets and motor carriers to comply with federal safety regulations.
“ISE was selected because of its depth of domain knowledge and breadth of experience with transportation and logistics solutions,” said Gary Capps, ORNL’s Technical Director, Commercial Motor Vehicle Roadside Technology Corridor. “In addition, we are very impressed with ISE’s approach and knowledge from a program management and product development perspective,” he said.
