Last week Google announced a change aimed at encrypting all search activity except for clicks on ads. "We added SSL encryption for our signed-in search users in 2011,” stated the company, in response to inquiries from SEO industry news site Search Engine Land. “We’re now working to bring this extra protection to more users who are not signed in."
Yet an encrypted search also means that website publishers, such as small business owners, can no longer access data about search terms or “keywords” available previously through programs like Google Analytics, which revealed the specific words people used to search online for a business website.
